Xiaomi Redmi 2 announced with 64-bit processor, HD Display
Last year Xiaomi kicked off the low cost smartphone war with Redmi 1S, now they are going to stir low-cost smartphone market by launching Redmi 2. Redmi 2 will be the first phone from Xiaomi in 2015.
Xiaomi has announced the launch of the Xiaomi Redmi 2, which is the successor to the Redmi 1S. The device has a 4.7 inch IPS display with resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. The smartphone is powered by a 64 bit quad core Snapdragon 410 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz along with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal storage.
On the imaging front it has got 8MP rear camera with LED Flash, BSI sensor, f/2.2 aperture, Omnivision sensor, 1080p video recording and a 2MP front camera.
The Redmi 2 has a more rounded design, slightly less bezel at the top and bottom of the display and is actually thinner and lighter than the original (133g, 9.4mm). A design change sees SIM card installed via a sim tray rather than removing the rear of the phone. This might actually tell us how Xiaomi managed to make the Redmi 2 thinner.
The Redmi 2 now comes with a choice of 5 colours – White, Black, Yellow, Green and Pink. In terms of connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS besides 4G LTE (TDD/FDD) network support.
The price of Xiaomi Redmi 2 in China is 699 Yuan ($113 USD and Rs. 7,120 approx.) As of now there is no official announcement about the launch in India, but we expect it to be in March.
